Skid steer attachments can help you make fast work of building a driveway or horse path. With a single machine and four different skid steer attachments, you can create a nice new driveway for your home: all you need is a tooth bucket, smooth-edge bucket, box grader, and the Tilt Tach. With a skid steer loader and its skid steer attachments, you save yourself the cost and hassle of using 2 – 4 different machines to accomplish the same job.
To begin the process on undisturbed turf, a tooth bucket is your first choice of the many skid steer attachments available. The large teeth along its front edge are designed to bite through sod and topsoil, and the bucket is tough enough to move large rocks and get you to the grade you need on level ground.
But in many cases, the route chosen for a driveway or path is perpendicular to the slope of a hill, and the path needs to be carved into the hill and leveled. This is where the Tilt Tach is one of your indispensable skid steer attachments.
The Tilt Tach is a rotatable plate that allows the operator to pivot a bucket or other skid steer attachments side-to-side with respect to the machine. In other words, the skid steer loader wheels can be at the same angle as the hill, but the bucket can be rotated to cut into the grade and make your driveway or path perfectly level.
Once the road is cut and level and the liner is applied, attach the smooth-edge bucket to your skid steer loader. This versatile attachment is used to carry and spread an even layer of rough gravel for the road bed. The smooth-edged bucket is then used to transport and level the finish gravel layer.
But final grading, spreading and smoothing are the specialties of the box grader. With its forward- and rear-facing four-blade configuration, the box grader attachment is simultaneously cutting and spreading for an ideal grade. Also, the box that holds those blades is designed to be in constant contact with the ground, keeping the skid steer loader from bouncing or pitching during the process, and scarring the surface.
When installing a driveway, horse-path, or walking path, the tooth bucket, smooth-edge bucket, box grader, and the ingenious Tilt Tach are the perfect skid steer attachments to get the job done right.

It would cost a lot of money to rent or buy (used or new) multiple machines to get one project done. It's surprising still to me how many jobs a skid steer loader can handle due to its durability and seemingly limitless attachments.
