Skidsteer Solutions' gas charged post-driver was actually inspired by one of our customers several years ago.
The jackhammer, or concrete breaker, is probably the most unwieldy, bone-rattling tasmanian devil of a tool ever devised. Nobody likes using it, which is probably why it was finally made into an attachment for the skid steer loader. The next time you see a construction crew breaking up a road, it's usually a rookie who's struggling with the jackhammer.
A concrete breaker is basically a pointed steel shaft that is rapidly struck downward by a powerful internal gas charged piston. The pointed tip is driven into the hardest substances, like stone and concrete, breaking them into pieces that can be cleared away. Although Skidsteer Solutions offers other concrete breakers, this is one tool that sees a lot of use by skid steer loader users.
After prolonged use, the pointed tip of the concrete breaker attachment gets dull. These tips are replaceable because the steel they are made from, no matter how strong, eventually succumbs to the constant beating and becomes too rounded over to grab into the hard stuff. This happened to a Skidsteer Solutions customer a few years ago, and instead of throwing out the old tip, he looked at it and got an idea.
The driver mechanism of the concrete breaker still worked fine. And the tip wasn’t bent or cracked, it was just too dull. So, removing the steel shaft, he machined the worn tip into a kind of cup shape. Then, he reinstalled the tip and reconnected the whole attachment to his trusty skid steer loader. Raising the boom up high, he now had what he describes as one of the most powerful and efficient post drivers he’s ever used.
He showed it to us here at Skidsteer Solutions, and with a few modifications, we turned his idea into an incredibly efficient new tool that we're proud to offer on the Skidsteer Solutions website.
Skidsteer Solutions' post driver attachment is now available for anyone with a skid steer loader and a lot of posts to install. The post driver has been a favorite of Skidsteer Solutions' fence building customers as a result.
